Dry cleaners in Medway and Kent

One workshop on the Gillingham waterfront cleans, mends and alters for all nine towns below. Pick your town to see what we collect there and which streets the van covers.

  Biodegradable detergent, not perchloroethylene, and not the silicone solvent other cleaners sell as the green option. Nothing comes back smelling of chemicals.

• Mended in the same building

  Zips, hems, linings, buttons and alterations are done at our own bench while the garment is here. One drop-off instead of a cleaner and then a tailor.

• Picked up and delivered

  We collect across Medway and bring the finished work back to the door. Collection and drop-back are free on orders of £45 or more. No charge to book.

  The counter is here, at The Boathouse on Ocean Drive, a minute from The Strand. Walk in with a suit, a duvet or a bag of washing and it is cleaned in water with biodegradable detergent, so nothing smells of chemicals when you collect it. The sewing room is in the same building, which is why a dropped hem or a dead zip gets fixed while the garment is already with us.

  Chatham

  ME4, ME5

  The van does the running in Chatham, from the Pentagon and the Brook out to Walderslade and Lordswood. Work suits and winter coats go through a water clean rather than a solvent one, and most are ready inside 48 hours. Ask for the trousers to be taken up or a lining replaced and it all comes back on one ticket.

  Rochester

  ME1

  Rochester trusts us with the pieces that matter most: wedding dresses, silk, beading, structured tailoring. We look at the garment and agree the method with you before anything starts, and that method is always water, never perc and never silicone. If the dress needs taking in before the day, our seamstress does that here too, so it is not two trips to two businesses.

  Rainham

  ME8

  Term time in Rainham means blazers, jumpers and PE kit. Send the set as one labelled bundle and it comes back together with the name tapes untouched, washed in water so there is no chemical smell on something a child wears all week. Lost buttons and split seams are sewn before it is bagged. Collection and drop-back are free on orders of £45 or more.

  Strood

  ME2

  The river crossing is ours to make, not yours. Households here send clothes and mending; short-let hosts on Medway City Estate send guest bed linen and towels, counted out and counted back the same way each week. Whatever can be cleaned in water is, and alterations stay in our building rather than being passed on to a tailor.

  Maidstone

  ME14, ME15, ME16

  Maidstone is half an hour up the A229, so the work travels rather than you: in the van, or in a bag left at the counter when you are over in Medway. Suits, coats and the weekly wash go into water and biodegradable detergent, not solvent, and the wardrobe smells of nothing afterwards. Hems, waistbands and replacement linings are done at the same bench, so one booking covers the cleaning and the altering.

  Sittingbourne

  ME9, ME10

  Sittingbourne sends us what a home machine cannot take: king-size duvets, winter coats, a full term of uniform. All of it is washed in water with a detergent that breaks down safely, so it comes back softer and fresher. Anything that needs a stitch gets one before it goes back in the bag, and Milton Regis, Kemsley and Bobbing are on the same run.

  Gravesend

  DA11, DA12

  Gravesend, Northfleet, Singlewell and Chalk send us heavy coats and work suits. Cleaning them in water means the lining is not left holding a solvent smell for a fortnight, and the shoulders keep their shape. A jammed zip or a torn pocket is mended at our own bench, so book the pickup for DA11 or DA12 and it all comes back together.

  West Malling

  ME19

  West Malling and Kings Hill mostly send tailoring and occasion wear. Structured dresses and silk get checked by hand before we decide how to clean them, and the decision is never a solvent, because perc and silicone both stay out of the building. Shortening a sleeve, moving a button or taking a dress in happens on the same visit, so the piece leaves ready to wear.
