Premium Shoe Cleaning and Accessories Care

Trainers, designer shoes, handbags, caps and hats, cleaned and restored by hand.

We clean and restore trainers, designer shoes, handbags, caps and hats at The Boathouse in Gillingham. Trainers that have gone grey, a leather bag that has picked up a mark, a cap that has lost its shape: they come back cleaned, conditioned and back in shape.

Every item is looked at before anything starts. Leather, suede, canvas, knit and mixed materials each take a different method, so we agree what can be done and what it will take while you are at the counter, not after.

What we clean

Trainers and sports shoes, leather shoes, boots and heels, handbags, purses and small leather goods, and caps, hats and fabric accessories. Uppers, midsoles, laces and linings are treated separately, so a canvas panel is never scrubbed like a rubber sole, and hardware on a bag is protected rather than cleaned over.

Cleaning and restoration

A clean lifts dirt, salt and everyday wear. Restoration goes further: conditioning leather that has dried out, recolouring where a finish has worn thin, reshaping a cap or a boot, and fresh laces. Deep scuffs are assessed first, because some marks set into a hide and no cleaner will lift them.

Do you collect shoes and bags?

Yes, on the same round as the rest of your cleaning. Put them in a separate bag and say what is in it when you book, so they travel away from the garment rail.

Questions

Is collection and delivery free?

Yes, on orders of £45 or more, and there is no charge to book.

Tell us what is in the bag when you book and we can say whether it clears £45. If you would rather not wait for a collection, the counter at The Boathouse takes drop-offs.

Can you clean trainers?

Yes. Trainers are cleaned by hand, with the uppers, midsoles, laces and linings treated separately so a canvas panel is not scrubbed like a rubber sole.

Bring them in and we will show you what will lift before we start. Marks that have set into a suede or a knit sometimes stay, and we say so first rather than after.

Can you clean a handbag?

Yes, by hand, working around the hardware rather than scrubbing over it and doing the lining on its own. What we use depends on whether the bag is leather, canvas or fabric.

Come in with it first. Worn corners and designer finishes change the method, and we agree that with you rather than guess from a description over the phone.

Can you clean leather or suede?

Yes, and it goes through a different process from a coat or a suit, so bring the piece in rather than booking it online.

The hide, the colour and the finish all set the method, and we agree a date with you once we have seen it.
